Wisdom seems to be in short supply in our nation. This lack of wisdom has made it’s way into the brotherhood and we are losing bible colleges, churches, publications, bookstore to liberalism. Here at Highland Christian Church are theme for the year is “make church great again.” What I mean by that statement is for us to stand on the principles of the early church and the restoration movement. This is the bedrock of our commitment to church, but it also insures that the word of God is taught truthfully. The walk of the Christian is through a valley and although we have our mountain top experiences we must walk with wisdom. We should demand no less from our churches, bible colleges, publications, bookstores. This requires us to Identify wisdom and its source of truth. Proverbs 1:2 (NASB) To know wisdom and instruction, To discern the sayings of understanding, Psalm 111:10 (NASB) The [a] fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who [b] do His commandments; His praise endures forever. Proverbs 1:7 (NASB) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NASB) 16 All Scripture is [a] inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for [b] training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. What we find about wisdom is for everyone who seeks to be wise. It’s not about being book smart, I often find that book smart people are ignorant of common sense, sound advice. But wisdom those same people learn fairness, justice, righteousness. Wisdom is the insight which helps you to decide what is the right thing to do. We must put wisdom to work in order for our nation and churches to function in their capacity. It is a shame that liberalism has declined the use of wisdom and the results is chaos in the ranks. Proverbs 2:2 (NASB) Make your ear attentive to wisdom, Incline your heart to understanding. Proverbs 3:21 (NASB) My son, let them not [a] vanish from your sight; Keep sound wisdom and discretion. We also need to know how to get wisdom and we find some instructions in the scripture. Proverbs 14:6 (NASB) A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding. James 1:5 (NASB) But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and [a] without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 3:17 (NASB) But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [a] reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy. We need to be careful to distinguish “wisdom” from “knowledge.” Knowledge involves information, facts. But wisdom is the ability or insight to properly use that information for justice, righteousness, and judgement. If we are going to let liberalism run our nation then we might as well give up our brotherhood and go home and sit on the couch and not complain when are freedoms are gone. It saddens me to see our bible colleges, churches, publications, and bookstores falling to the agenda of liberalism. But I’m not surprised because we have let it enter the rest of our lives and we are accustom to its lowering the standard of God’s word.
