“I will cherish the old rugged cross. Till my trophies I lay down.” Very powerful words from that song. The concept is the cross is better than all my awards, toys, achievements. Matthew 16:21-28 (read) gives us an insight to taking up our cross to follow Jesus. Jesus points out four things that should motivate us to leave the cares of the world and focus on Christ Jesus indicated that saving is losing. “Whoever will save his life” this could refer to the coward who turns and runs. Certainly he has created more problems They mock at the thought of being content. But when you have to rely on God, possessions don’t seem that important. “If your possessions are more important to you than your soul, you can not be a disciple. Because if life means more than your souls eternity. Then someone else’ soul will have little value to you and you will not share the gospel with them. But if you do lose all for the sake of the gospel. Jesus also made this promise to you. “The son of men is going to come again. Every Christian should be so focused on that event that the appeal of the world is next to nothing in our minds.
